Juta to długie, miękkie, błyszczące włókno roślinne, które można spunować do grubych, mocnych nici. Jest produkowany z roślin w rodzaju Corchorus, który był kiedyś zaklasyfikowany do rodziny Tiliaceae, ostatnio z Malvaceae i został przeklasyfikowany jako należący do rodziny Sparrmanniaceae. "Juta" jest nazwą rośliny lub włókna, która jest używana do wyrobu burlapu, tkaniny Hessiana lub pistoletu. Juta jest jednym z najbardziej przystępnych włókien naturalnych, a po drugie tylko bawełna w ilości wyprodukowanej i różnorodnych zastosowań włókien roślinnych. Włókna jutowe składają się głównie z celulozowych materiałów roślinnych i ligniny. Znajduje się w kategorii włókniny bambusowej wraz z kenaf, przemysłowych konopi, lnu, ramii, itp. Okres przemysłowy włókna jutowego to surowa juta. Włókna są od białego do brązowego i mają długość 1-4 metra. Juta nazywana jest również "złocistym włóknem" ze względu na jego kolor i dużą wartość gotówki.
