Niewielka skaczka to mała północna amerykańska kaczka nurkowa, która migruje na południe do Ameryki Środkowej w zimie. Jest to potocznie znany jako mały niebieskibill lub broadbill ze względu na jego charakterystyczny niebieski rachunek. Pochodzenie nazwy scaup może wynikać z preferencji ptasiej do karmienia na skórze głowy - szkockiego słowa małży, ostryg i małży; jednakże przypisuje to kobiecie niezgodne z nazwą scaup jako źródło jego nazwy. Jest to najwyraźniej bardzo bliski krewny z Holarctic scaup lub "bluebill", z którymi tworzy się superspecje.
