W teorii makroekonomicznej preferencja płynności odnosi się do zapotrzebowania na pieniądze, uważanego za płynność. Koncepcja została po raz pierwszy opracowana przez Johna Maynard Keynesa w jego książce The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, aby wyjaśnić determinację stopy procentowej przez podaż i popyt. Zapotrzebowanie na pieniądz jako składnik aktywów zostało uznane za uzależnione od odsetek odroczonych przez nie posiadanie obligacji.
