Luwr czy Luwr to jedno z największych na świecie muzeów i zabytkowego pomnika. Centralny punkt Paryża, Francja, położony jest na prawym brzegu Sekwany w 1. okręgu. Blisko 35 000 obiektów z czasów prehistorii do XXI wieku znajduje się na powierzchni 60 600 metrów kwadratowych. Luwr jest najczęściej odwiedzanym muzeum z ponad 9,7 miliona odwiedzających rocznie. Ludwik XIV wybrał Pałac Wersalski do swoich domów, pozostawiając Louvre przede wszystkim jako miejsce wystawiania kolekcji królewskiej, w tym od 1692 r. Kolekcja starożytnej rzeźby greckiej i rzymskiej. W 1692 budynek został zajęty przez Académie des inscriptions et Belles Lettres i Académie Royale de Peinture et de Rzeźba, która w 1699 roku odbyła się pierwsza seria salons. Académie pozostawał w Luwrze przez 100 lat.
