W psychologii pamięć to proces, w którym informacje są szyfrowane, przechowywane i pobierane. Z punktu widzenia przetwarzania informacji istnieją trzy główne etapy tworzenia i pobierania pamięci: ▪ Kodowanie lub rejestracja: odbieranie, przetwarzanie i łączenie otrzymanych informacji ▪ Magazynowanie: tworzenie stałego zapisu zakodowanych informacji ▪ Pobieranie, przypomnienie lub pamięć: odwoływanie zapisanych informacji w odpowiedzi na jakąś instrukcję do wykorzystania w procesie lub aktywności Utrata pamięci jest opisywana jako zapomnienie lub - jako zaburzenie medyczne - amnezja.
