Unikatowa pozycja wyspy oddalonej zaledwie 600 metrów od lądu czyniła ją łatwo dostępnym podczas odpływu wielu pielgrzymom do jego opactwa. Podobnie stanowisko to czyniło go łatwo obronnym, ponieważ przypływająca fala, która utkwiła się lub utopiła, byłyby napastnikami.
