Ubezpieczenie narodowe w Wielkiej Brytanii jest systemem składek płaconych przez pracowników i pracodawców w stosunku do kosztów określonych świadczeń państwowych. Składnik składki systemu, "Składki na ubezpieczenia społeczne", płacony przez pracowników i pracodawców od zarobków oraz przez pracodawców na rzecz pewnych świadczeń w naturze świadczonych pracownikom. Osoby prowadzące działalność na własny rachunek przyczyniają się częściowo przez ustaloną tygodniową lub miesięczną płatność, a częściowo odsetka zysków netto powyżej pewnego progu. Osoby mogą także składać dobrowolne składki, aby wypełnić lukę w ich składkach, a tym samym chronić ich prawo do świadczeń. Składki są gromadzone przez HM Revenue and Customs za pośrednictwem systemu PAYE wraz z podatkiem dochodowym i spłatą pożyczek studenckich.
