Narody mogą odnosić się do dużej grupy osób, które dzielą wspólny język, kulturę, pochodzenie etniczne, pochodzenie lub historię. W tych warunkach naród został zdefiniowany przez Benedykta Andersona jako "wyobrażona społeczność" lub Paul James jako "abstrakcyjna społeczność".
