Oman, oficjalnie nazywany sułtanatem z Omanu, jest państwem arabskim w południowo-zachodniej Azji, na południowo-wschodnim wybrzeżu Półwyspu Arabskiego. Ma strategicznie ważną pozycję u ujścia Zatoki Perskiej. Wyłączenia Madhy i Musandam są otoczone przez ZEA na ich granicach lądowych, a Cieśnina Hormuz i Zatoka Oman tworzą granice nadmorskich miejscowości Musandam. Od 17 wieku Oman miał własne imperium, a wraz z Portugalią i Wielką Brytanią wywierał wpływ na Zatokę Perską i Ocean Indyjski. W szczytowym okresie XIX w. Wpływ Omanu czy kontrola przebiegała przez Cieśninę Hormuz do Iranu i współczesnego Pakistanu, a na południe do Zanzibaru. Kiedy władza spadła w 20 wieku, sułtanat podupadł pod wielkim wpływem z Wielkiej Brytanii, chociaż Oman nigdy nie był formalnie częścią Imperium Brytyjskiego, ani brytyjskiego protektoratu. Oficjalną religią Omanu jest Ibadi Islam.
