Perystaltyka
Perystalis jest symetrycznie skurczem i rozluźnieniem mięśni, które rozprzestrzenia się w fali w dół mięśniowej rurki, w sposób anterograde. Perystalis występuje często w skurczu tkanki mięśni gładkich, aby napędzać pokarm / chyme poprzez przewód pokarmowy, taki jak ludzki układ żołądkowo-jelitowy. Jest skurczem fal wzdłużnych i okrągłych mięśni poprzedzonych odprężeniem tych mięśni. Dżdżownice wykorzystują podobny mechanizm do poruszania się ich lokomocji. Słowo pochodzi z Nowego Łacina i pochodzi od greckiego perystalleina "zawijać", od peri, "wokół" + stalleina, "położyć". W większości przewodu żołądkowo-jelitowego kontrakty mięśni gładkich kolejno powodują falę perystaltyczną, która wymusza kulę pokarmową wzdłuż przewodu pokarmowego. Ruch perystaltyczny jest inicjowany przez okrągłe, gładkie mięśnie, które zaciskają za żuciem materiału, aby zapobiec przenoszeniu się z powrotem do jamy ustnej, a następnie skurcz wzdłużnych mięśni gładkich, które popychają strawiony posiłek. Catastalsis jest związanym procesem mięśni jelitowych.
