W grafikach komputerowych pikselacja jest spowodowana wyświetleniem mapy bitowej lub fragmentu bitmapy w tak dużym rozmiarze, że poszczególne piksele, pojedyncze małe kwadratu elementy wyświetlacza zawierające mapę bitową są widoczne. Taki obraz ma być pikselowany. Diament bez i z antyaliasingiem Wcześniejsze aplikacje graficzne, takie jak gry wideo, miały bardzo niską rozdzielczość przy niewielkiej liczbie kolorów, a więc miały łatwo widoczne piksele. Powstałe ostre krawędzie dały zakrzywione obiekty i ukośne linie nienaturalnym wyglądom. Jednakże, gdy liczba dostępnych kolorów wzrosła do 256, możliwe było wykorzystanie antyaliasingu w celu wygładzenia wyglądu obiektów o niskich rozdzielczościach, a nie eliminowania pikselacji, ale mniej jarring do oka. Wyższe rozdzielczości wkrótce sprawią, że ten typ pikselowania będzie niewidoczny na ekranie, ale pixelacja jest nadal widoczna, jeśli na papierze jest wydrukowany obraz o niskiej rozdzielczości. W dziedzinie grafiki 3D w czasie rzeczywistym pikselowanie może być problemem. Tutaj bitmapy są stosowane do wielokątów jako tekstur.
