Poliuretanowy, powszechnie skrócony PVC, jest trzecim najczęściej produkowanym polimerem, po polietylenie i polipropylenie. PVC ma dwie podstawowe formy: sztywne i elastyczne. Sztywna forma PVC jest stosowana w budownictwie do rur, jak również w zastosowaniach profilowych, takich jak drzwi i okna. Jest również używany do butelek i innych opakowań nieżywnościowych oraz kart. Może być miękki i bardziej elastyczny przez dodanie plastyfikatorów, najczęściej stosowanych jako ftalany. Czyste poli oznacza białą, kruchą substancję stałą. Jest nierozpuszczalny w alkoholu, ale lekko rozpuszczalny w tetrahydrofuranie.
