Redstart to grupa małych ptaków ze Starego Świata. Były one wcześniej zaklasyfikowane do rodziny plemienia, ale teraz wiadomo, że należą do rodziny muchołapów Starego Świata Muscicapidae. Obecnie są leczeni czterema rodzajami, prawdziwymi redstartami Phoenicurus, ściśle pokrewnymi rodzajami Chaimarrornis i Rhyacornis oraz mniej pokrewnym rodzajem Hodgsonius. Są to ptaków owadobójczych owadożernych, z których większość posiada czerwony ogon, który nadaje grupie nazwę; "start" to nowoczesny angielski reflex średniowiecznego angielskiego sterta, staroangielski strajk, ogon zwierzęcia. Większość gatunków jest wędrowna, a gatunki północne to migranci dalekosiężni i inne gatunki południowe, często migrujące na wysokościach i migrujące w zimie. Są małymi owadożerniakami, mężczyźni przeważnie jaskrawo barwieni w różnych kombinacjach czerwonych, niebieskich, białych i czarnych, samicach jasnobrązowych z czerwonym ogonem.
