Rybawiryna jest analogiem guanozyny stosowanym do zatrzymania syntezy RNA wirusa i mRNA wirusa, dlatego jest inhibitorem nukleozydowym. Jej nazwy to Copegus, Rebetol, Ribasphere, Vilona i Virazole, a jest to lek przeciw wirusom stosowany poza etykietą w przypadku ciężkich zakażeń RSV, zakażenia wirusem zapalenia wątroby typu C i innych infekcji wirusowych. Rybawiryna jest prolekiem, który po metabolizowaniu przypomina nukleotydy purynowych RNA. W tej formie zakłóca metabolizm RNA wymagany do replikacji wirusa.
