W katolickiej teologii moralnej probabilizm daje sposób odpowiedzi na pytanie, co robić, gdy nie wiadomo, co robić. Probabilizm proponuje, aby można było podążyć za prawdopodobną opinią, czy dany akt można wykonywać moralnie, mimo że przeciwna opinia jest bardziej prawdopodobna. Został on sformułowany w 1577 roku przez Bartłomieja Medyny, OP, który prowadził w Salamance.
Definicja słowa rigorism w słowniku
Pierwszą definicją rygoryzmu w słowniku jest ścisłość w ocenie lub zachowaniu. Inną definicją rygoryzmu jest kult religijny skrajnego samozaparcia. Rygoryzm jest także doktryną, że w przypadku wątpliwości w sprawach moralnych zawsze należy przestrzegać bardziej rygorystycznego kursu.
