Masakra św. Bartłomieja w 1572 r. Była grupą zamachów, a następnie fala katastralnej przemocy wobec mężów, skierowana przeciwko Hugenotom podczas francuskich wojen religijnych. Tradycyjnie uwierzyła, że została zainicjowana przez Katarzynę de Medici, matkę króla Karola IX, masakra miała miejsce pięć dni po ślubie królewskiej siostry Małgorzaty z protestantem Henrykiem III Nawarry. To małżeństwo było okazją, dla której wielu najbardziej zamożnych i wybitnych hugenotów zebrało się w większości katolickim Paryżu.
