Scyntylator jest materiałem, który wykazuje scyntylację - właściwość luminescencji wzbudzaną promieniowaniem jonizującym. Materiały luminescencyjne, gdy są uderzone przez przychodzącą cząstkę, pochłaniają jej energię i scyntylują.
