Odłogowanie
Odłogowanie było programem wprowadzonym przez Europejską Wspólnotę Gospodarczą (EWG) z 1988 r. (Rozporządzenie (EWG) 1272/88) w celu: (i) zmniejszenia znacznych i kosztownych nadwyżek produkowanych w Europie w ramach gwarantowanego systemu cenowego Wspólnej Rolnictwa Polityka (WPR); oraz (ii) osiągnięcie pewnych korzyści dla środowiska w wyniku poważnych szkód w ekosystemach rolnych i przyrodniczych w wyniku intensyfikacji rolnictwa. Od 1992 r. W ramach reformy Wspólnej Polityki Rolnej MacSharry obowiązuje odłogowanie w przypadku dużych rolników rolnych. Początkowo ustalono ją na poziomie 15%, aw 1996 r. Zmniejszono do 10%. Po wprowadzeniu w 2005 r. Płatności niezwiązanych z wielkością produkcji, rolnicy, którzy w przeszłości zażądali odłogowania, otrzymali szereg odpisanych "uprawnień" odpowiadających obszarowi, który poprzednio odłogowanie. W celu otrzymania płatności od tych uprawnień z tytułu odłogowania, ekwiwalentna liczba hektarów musiała zostać usunięta z produkcji rolnej. Odłogowane grunty okazały się skutecznym sposobem poprawy chemii gleby i zwiększenia bioróżnorodności na użytkach rolnych, zwłaszcza w przypadku pięcioletniego odłogowania nieprzetworzonego.
