Moduł identyfikacyjny abonenta lub moduł identyfikacyjny abonenta to zintegrowany obwód, który w sposób bezpieczny przechowuje międzynarodową tożsamość abonenta usługi mobilnej i powiązany klucz używany do identyfikacji i uwierzytelniania abonentów na urządzeniach telefonii komórkowej. Karta SIM zawiera unikalny numer seryjny, międzynarodową tożsamość subskrybenta mobilnego, uwierzytelnianie i szyfrowanie informacji o zabezpieczeniach, tymczasowe informacje dotyczące sieci lokalnej, listę usług, do których użytkownik ma dostęp, oraz dwa hasła: osobisty numer identyfikacyjny dla zwykłego użytku i osobisty kod odblokowujący dla odblokowania kodu PIN.
