Solenodony są jadowitymi, nocnymi, burzącymi, owadożernymi ssakami należącymi do rodziny Solenodontidae. Jedynie jeden rodzaj, Solenodon, jest znany, chociaż kilka innych rodzajów zostało wzniesione jednocześnie i są teraz uważane za mniejsze synonimy.
