Sphagnum
Sphagnum jest rodzajem około 120 gatunków mchów. Zbieranie się siarki może prowadzić do gromadzenia wody, ponieważ żywe i martwe rośliny mogą utrzymywać duże ilości wody w komórkach; rośliny mogą utrzymywać od 16 do 26 razy większą ilość wody niż sucha masa w zależności od gatunku.
