Telewizja, potocznie znana jako telewizja, (z francuskiego télévision, od starożytnego greckiego τῆλε (tèle), co oznacza "daleko", a wizja latynoska, czyli "wzrok") jest medium telekomunikacyjnym, które służy do przesyłania i odbierania ruchomych obrazów i dźwięku. W szerszym znaczeniu telewizja może odnosić się także do obrazów monochromatycznych (czarno-białych) lub kolorowych lub obrazów z dźwiękiem towarzyszącym lub bez niego. Telewizja może odnosić się również do telewizora, programu telewizyjnego lub transmisji telewizyjnej. Komercyjnie dostępny od końca lat dwudziestych XX wieku (ale w bardzo ograniczonych ilościach) telewizja stała się powszechna w domach, przedsiębiorstwach i instytucjach, szczególnie jako pojazd do reklamy, źródło rozrywki i wiadomości. W latach pięćdziesiątych telewizja stała się podstawowym medium kształtowania opinii publicznej. W połowie lat sześćdziesiątych telewizja kolorowa stała się szerzej dostępna.
