Ostroza jest wspólną nazwą grupy roślin kwiatowych charakteryzujących się liśćmi z ostrymi prickles na marginesie, głównie w rodzinie Asteraceae. Kłujący często występują w całej roślinie - na powierzchniach, takich jak łodygi i płaskie części liści. Są to adaptacje, które chronią roślinę przed roślinożernymi, zniechęcając ich do karmienia na roślinie. Zwykle involucre z zapięciem kształt kielicha lub urny subtends każdego z kwiatostanów ostrożeń. Termin thistle czasami oznacza dokładnie te rośliny z plemienia Cynareae, zwłaszcza z rodzaju Carduus, Cirsium i Onopordum.
