Transferrin
Transferryny to glikoproteiny osocza krwi wiążące żelazo, które kontrolują poziom wolnego żelaza w płynach biologicznych. Transferrin ludzkiej jest kodowany przez gen TF. Glikoproteiny transferyny wiążą żelazo bardzo mocno, ale odwrotnie. Chociaż żelazo związane z transferyną stanowi mniej niż 0,1% całkowitego żelaza w organizmie, jest to najważniejszy basen żelaza, o najwyższej wartości obrotów. Transferrina ma masę cząsteczkową około 80 KDa i zawiera dwa specjalne miejsca wiążące Fe o wysokim powinowactwie. Powinowactwo transferyny do Fe jest bardzo wysokie, ale maleje stopniowo przy malejącym pH poniżej neutralności. Kiedy nie jest związany z żelazem, jest on znany jako "apotransferryna".
