Triangulacja
W trygonometrii i geometrii triangulacja jest procesem określania położenia punktu przez mierzenie kątów od znanych punktów na każdym końcu ustalonej linii bazowej, zamiast pomiaru odległości do punktu bezpośrednio. Punkt ten można następnie ustalić jako trzeci punkt trójkąta z jedną znaną stroną i dwoma znanymi kątami. Triangulacja może odnosić się również do dokładnego zbadania systemów bardzo dużych trójkątów, zwanych sieciami triangulacji. Wynikało to z pracy Willebrorda Snella w 1615-17, która pokazała, jak punkt mógłby znajdować się pod kątem, który był podparty od trzech znanych punktów, ale zmierzony w nowym punkcie nieznanym, a nie na wcześniej ustalonych punktach, problem zwany resekcją. Błąd pomiaru jest zminimalizowany, jeśli najpierw założona jest trójkąt o największej odpowiedniej skali. Punkty wewnątrz trójkątów mogą być dokładnie zlokalizowane w odniesieniu do niego. Takie metody triangulacji wykorzystano do dokładnego, wielkogabarytowego badania terenowego, aż do powstania globalnych systemów nawigacji satelitarnej w latach osiemdziesiątych.
Definicja słowa triangulation w słowniku
Pierwszą definicją triangulacji w słowniku jest metoda geodezyjna, w której obszar jest podzielony na trójkąty, jedna strona i wszystkie kąty są mierzone, a długości pozostałych linii obliczane trygonometrycznie. Inną definicją triangulacji jest sieć tak ukształtowanych trójkątów. Triangulacja to także ustalenie nieznanego punktu, tak jak w nawigacji, poprzez uczynienie go jednym wierzchołkiem trójkąta, a pozostałe dwie są znane.
