Uniwersalny kod produktu
Uniwersalny kod produktu to symbolika kodów kreskowych stosowana powszechnie w Stanach Zjednoczonych, Kanadzie, Wielkiej Brytanii, Australii, Nowej Zelandii iw innych krajach do śledzenia przedmiotów handlowych w sklepach. Najczęściej spotykaną formą, UPC-A, składa się z 12 liczbowych cyfr, które są unikalnie przypisane do każdej pozycji handlowej. Wraz z powiązanym kodem kreskowym EAN UPC jest kodem kreskowym wykorzystywanym głównie do skanowania przedmiotów handlowych w punkcie sprzedaży według specyfikacji GS1. Struktury danych UPC są składnikami GTIN. Wszystkie te struktury danych są zgodne ze specyfikacją GS1, która opiera się na międzynarodowych standardach. Niektórzy sprzedawcy detaliczni nie korzystają z systemu GS1. Inni sprzedawcy detaliczni używają symboliki kodu kreskowego EAN / UPC, ale bez użycia GTIN.
