Kserografia
Xerografia to sucha technika fotokopiowania, którą wynalazł w 1938 roku w Chester Carlson, za którą otrzymał 6 października 1942 r. Patent USA nr 2.297.691. Carlson pierwotnie nazwał swoją elektrofotografię wynalazczą. Później zmieniono nazwę na kserografię - z greckich korzeni ξηρός xeros "dry" i -γραφία -graphia "writing" - aby podkreślić, że w przeciwieństwie do technik reprodukcji w użyciu, takich jak cyjanotyp, proces ten nie stosował płynnych chemikaliów. Innowacja Carlson w połączeniu drukowania elektrostatycznego z fotografią, w przeciwieństwie do suchego procesu drukowania elektrostatycznego, wymyślonego przez Georga Christopha Lichtenberga w 1778 roku. Proces oryginalny Carlsona był kłopotliwy, wymagający kilku ręcznych etapów obróbki z płaskimi płytami. To było prawie 18 lat, zanim w pełni zautomatyzowany proces został opracowany, kluczowym przełomem było użycie cylindrycznego bębna pokrytego selenem zamiast płaskiej płyty. W rezultacie powstała pierwsza komercyjna kopiarka automatyczna, Xerox 914, wydana przez Haloid / Xerox w 1960 roku. W tym samym roku Carlson zaproponował swoją ideę kilkunastu firmom, ale nikt nie był zainteresowany.
