Antytrypsyna alfa 1 ma masę cząsteczkową 45 000, współczynnik sedymentacji 3,41 S i zawartość cukru 12,4%, co odpowiada 1/2 globuliny α1. Jest syntetyzowany w komórkach wątroby i ma działanie antytrypsyny, hamuje działanie proteazy lub esterazy uwolnionej z wielojądrzastych leukocytów, makrofagów i bakterii. Wiadomo, że więcej niż 20 fenotypów jest wyrażanych przez elektroforezę w żelu kwaśnym skrobi i krzyżową immunoelektroforezę (układ Pi). 알파1앤티트립신 분자량 45, 000, 침강 계수(沈降係數) 3.41S, 당함량(糖含量) 12.4%로서 α1글로불린의 ½을 차지한다. 간 세포에서 합성되어 항트립신작용을 지니며, 다핵백혈구(多核白血球), 대식세포, 세균에서 유리된 프로테아제(protease)나 에스테라제(esterase)의 작용을 저해한다. acid starch gel electrophoresis와 crossed immunoelectrophoresis에 의하여 20종류이상의 표현형 phonotype가 존재한다는 것이 알려져 있다(Pi system).
