Abbevillian
Abbevillian é um nome atualmente obsolescente para uma tradição ferramenta que vem sendo chamado Oldowan. Os artefatos originais foram coletados dos locais de construção de estradas no rio Somme, perto de Abbeville, por um oficial aduaneiro francês, Boucher de Perthes. Ele publicou suas descobertas em 1836. Posteriormente, Louis Laurent Gabriel de Mortillet, professor de antropologia pré-histórica na Escola de Antropologia de Paris, publicou "Le Prehistorique, antiquité de l'homme", no qual ele foi o primeiro a caracterizar períodos pelo nome de um site. Muitos de seus nomes ainda estão em uso. Seus dois primeiros foram Chellean e Acheulean. Chellean incluiu artefatos descobertos na cidade de Chelles, um subúrbio de Paris. Eles são semelhantes aos encontrados em Abbeville. Antropólogos posteriores substituíram Abbevillian por Chellean, o último que já não está em uso.
