Agente antiestático
Um agente antiestático é um composto utilizado para o tratamento de materiais ou suas superfícies, a fim de reduzir ou eliminar o acúmulo de eletricidade estática geralmente causada pelo efeito triboelétrico. Seu papel é tornar a superfície ou o próprio material levemente condutor, seja pela própria condução, seja pela absorção de umidade do ar, de modo que alguns humectantes podem ser usados. As moléculas de um agente antiestático têm frequentemente áreas hidrofílicas e hidrofóbicas, semelhantes às de um surfactante; o lado hidrofóbico interage com a superfície do material, enquanto o lado hidrofílico interage com a umidade do ar e liga as moléculas de água. Os agentes antiestáticos internos são projetados para serem misturados diretamente no material, os agentes antiestáticos externos são aplicados na superfície. Os agentes antiestáticos comuns são baseados em aminas e amidas alifáticas de cadeia longa, sais de amônio quaternário, ésteres de ácido fosfórico, ésteres de polietilenoglicol ou polióis. O óxido de estanho do índio pode ser usado como revestimento antiestático transparente das janelas. Também é possível usar polímeros condutores, como PEDOT: PSS e nanofibras de polímero condutor, particularmente nanofibras de polianilina.
