Aromaticity
Na química orgânica, a aromática é uma propriedade química que descreve a forma como um anel conjugado de ligações não saturadas, pares solitários ou orbitais vazios exibe uma estabilização mais forte do que seria esperado pela estabilização da conjugação sozinha. O primeiro uso do termo foi em um artigo de August Wilhelm Hofmann em 1855. Não existe uma relação geral entre a aromáticaidade como uma propriedade química e as propriedades olfativas de tais compostos. A aromaticidade também pode ser considerada uma manifestação de deslocalização cíclica e de ressonância. Isso é geralmente considerado como sendo que os elétrons são livres para circular em torno de arranjos circulares de átomos que são alternadamente solteiros e duplamente ligados um ao outro. Essas ligações podem ser vistas como um híbrido de uma ligação simples e uma ligação dupla, cada ligação no anel idêntica às outras. Este modelo comum de anéis aromáticos, a saber, a idéia de que o benzeno foi formado a partir de um anel de carbono de seis membros com ligações simples e duplas alternadas, foi desenvolvido por Kekulé. O modelo do benzeno consiste em duas formas de ressonância, que corresponde às ligações duplas e simples que se sobrepõem para dar origem a seis ligações de um e meio.
