Babilônia
A Babilônia era uma antiga nação semipêutica de língua Akkadiana e uma região cultural com base no centro-sul da Mesopotâmia. Surgiu como um estado independente c. 1894 aC, com a cidade da Babilônia como sua capital. Muitas vezes, ele estava envolvido na rivalidade com o seu estado acadiano Akkadiano no norte da Mesopotâmia. A Babilônia tornou-se o principal poder na região depois que Hammurabi criou um império de muitos dos territórios do antigo Império Akkadiano. O estado babilônico manteve a língua acadiana semítica escrita para uso oficial, apesar de seus fundadores amorreus e sucessores kassitas não serem Akkadianos nativos.
