Basidium
Um basidium é uma estrutura microscópica, produtora de esporos, encontrada no himenóforo de corpos frutivos de fungos basidiomicetos. A presença de basidia é uma das principais características do Basidiomycota. Um basidium geralmente possui quatro esporos sexuais chamados basidiosporos; ocasionalmente o número pode ser dois ou mesmo oito. Em um basidium típico, cada basidiospora é carregada na ponta de um dente ou chifre estreito chamado esterigma e é descarregado por força após a maturidade. A palavra basidium significa literalmente pouco pedestal, do modo como o basidium suporta os esporos. No entanto, alguns biólogos sugerem que a estrutura se assemelha mais a um clube. Um basidio imaturo é conhecido como basidiole.
