Em sistemas informáticos e eletrônicos, o decimal codificado em binário é uma classe de codificações binárias de números decimais, em que cada dígito decimal é representado por um número fixo de bits, normalmente quatro ou oito, embora outros tamanhos tenham sido utilizados historicamente. Padrões de bits especiais às vezes são usados para um sinal ou para outras indicações. Em sistemas orientados a bytes, o termo BCD não comprimido geralmente implica um byte completo para cada dígito, enquanto que o BCD compactado codifica tipicamente dois dígitos decimais dentro de um único byte, aproveitando o fato de que quatro bits são suficientes para representar o intervalo de 0 a 9. A codificação precisa de 4 bits pode variar no entanto, por razões técnicas, veja Excesso-3, por exemplo. A principal virtude da BCD é a sua representação mais precisa e o arredondamento de quantidades decimais, bem como uma facilidade de conversão em representações legíveis por humanos, em comparação com os sistemas posicionais binários. As principais desvantagens da BCD são um pequeno aumento na complexidade dos circuitos necessários para a implementação de aritmética básica e um armazenamento ligeiramente menos denso. BCD foi usado em muitos computadores decimais anteriores.
