O software bloat é um processo pelo qual as versões sucessivas de um programa de computador tornam-se sensivelmente mais lentas, usam mais memória / diskspace ou poder de processamento ou possuem requisitos de hardware mais altos do que a versão anterior, ao mesmo tempo em que realizam apenas melhorias duvidosas perceptíveis pelo usuário. O termo não é aplicado consistentemente; muitas vezes é usado como um pejorativo pelos usuários finais para descrever mudanças de interface do usuário indesejadas, mesmo que essas mudanças tenham pouco ou nenhum efeito sobre os requisitos de hardware. No software de longa duração, o bloqueio percebido pode ocorrer a partir do software que gerencia um mercado grande e diversificado com muitos requisitos diferentes.
