Reator de água fervente
O reator de água fervente é um tipo de reator nuclear de água leve usado para a geração de energia elétrica. É o segundo tipo mais comum de reator nuclear gerador de eletricidade após o reator de água pressurizada, também um tipo de reator nuclear de água leve. A principal diferença entre um BWR e PWR é que em um BWR, o núcleo do reator aquece a água, que se transforma em vapor e, em seguida, conduz uma turbina a vapor. Em um PWR, o núcleo do reator aquece a água, que não ferve. Esta água quente, em seguida, troca calor com um sistema de água de baixa pressão, que se transforma em vapor e conduz a turbina. O BWR foi desenvolvido pelo Idaho National Laboratory e General Electric em meados da década de 1950. O principal fabricante atual é GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, que é especialista no projeto e construção deste tipo de reator.
