Um crédito de carbono é um termo genérico para qualquer certificado ou licença negociável que represente o direito de emitir uma tonelada de dióxido de carbono ou a massa de outro gás com efeito de estufa com um equivalente de dióxido de carbono equivalente a uma tonelada de dióxido de carbono. Os créditos de carbono e os mercados de carbono são um componente das tentativas nacionais e internacionais de mitigar o crescimento das concentrações de gases de efeito estufa.
