A ansiedade de castração é o medo da emasculação, tanto no sentido literal como metafórico. A ansiedade de castração é um medo avassalador de danos ou perda do pênis; uma das primeiras teorias psicanalíticas de Sigmund Freud. Embora Freud tenha considerado a ansiedade da castração como uma experiência humana universal, poucos estudos empíricos foram realizados sobre o tema. Grande parte da pesquisa que foi feita sobre o tema foi feita décadas atrás, embora ainda relevante hoje. A teoria é que uma criança tem medo de que os pais sejam submetidos aos seus genitais, como o castigo por sentimentos sexuais em relação ao pai do sexo oposto. Tem sido teorizado que a ansiedade de castração começa entre as idades de 3 e 5, também conhecido como o estágio fálico de desenvolvimento de acordo com Freud. Embora tipicamente associado aos homens, a ansiedade da castração é experimentada de maneiras diferentes para os sexos masculino e feminino.
