Causalidade é a relação entre um evento e um segundo evento, onde o segundo evento é entendido como uma conseqüência do primeiro. No uso comum, a causalidade é também a relação entre um conjunto de fatores e um fenômeno. Qualquer coisa que afeta um efeito é um fator desse efeito. Um fator direto é um fator que afeta diretamente um efeito, ou seja, sem quaisquer fatores intermediários.
