Paliurus spina-christi
Paliurus spina-christi, comumente conhecido como Jerusalém Thorn, Garland Thorn, Thorn de Cristo, ou Crown of Thorns, é uma espécie de Paliurus nativo da região mediterrânea e do sudoeste e Ásia central, de Marrocos e Espanha a leste para o Irã e o Tajiquistão. É um arbusto de folha caduca ou uma pequena árvore que cresce para 3-4 m de altura. Os rebentos são ziguezagueados, com uma folha e duas espinhas estipuladas na parte externa de cada torção. As folhas são ovais, 2-5 cm de comprimento e 1-4 cm de largura, verde brilhante, com uma margem total. O fruto é um nuttle seco e seco, centrado em uma asa circular de 2-3,5 cm de diâmetro. O nome reflete uma antiga lenda de que os ramos espinhosos foram usados para fazer a coroa de espinhos colocada na cabeça de Cristo antes de sua crucificação. É vista como uma curiosidade ornamental e é cultivada em algumas áreas espalhando seu alcance, incluindo Fiji.
