Intervalo (matemática)
Em matemática, um intervalo é um conjunto de números reais com a propriedade de que qualquer número que esteja entre dois números no conjunto também está incluído no conjunto. Por exemplo, o conjunto de todos os números x que satisfazem 0 ≤ x ≤ 1 é um intervalo que contém 0 e 1, bem como todos os números entre eles. Outros exemplos de intervalos são o conjunto de todos os números reais, o conjunto de todos os números reais negativos e o conjunto vazio. Os intervalos reais desempenham um papel importante na teoria da integração, porque são os conjuntos mais simples, cujo "tamanho" ou "medida" ou "comprimento" é fácil de definir. O conceito de medida pode então ser estendido para conjuntos de números reais mais complicados, levando à medida de Borel e, eventualmente, à medida de Lebesgue.
