Cobaltite
Cobaltite é um mineral de sulfeto composto de cobalto, arsênio e enxofre, CoAsS. Contém até 10 por cento de ferro e quantidades variáveis de níquel. Estruturalmente se assemelha a pirita com um dos átomos de enxofre substituído por um átomo de arsênio. Embora raro seja minado como uma fonte significativa do cobalto metálico estrategicamente importante. As incrustações secundárias de erosão de eritrite, arseniato de cobalto hidratado, são comuns. O nome é do alemão, Kobold, "espírito subterrâneo" em alusão à "recusa" de minérios cobaltiferos de cheirar como se espera. Ocorre em depósitos hidrotérmicos de alta temperatura e rochas metamórficas de contato. Ocorre em associação com magnetite, esferalerita, chalcopyrite, skutterudite, alanita, zoisite, escapolito, titanite, calcite juntamente com vários outros sulfetos e arsenietos Co-Ni. Foi descrito já em 1832. Encontra-se principalmente na Suécia, Noruega, Alemanha, Cornwall, Inglaterra, Canadá, Austrália, República Democrática do Congo e Marrocos.
