O QUE SIGNIFICA COLLOIDAL EM INGLÊS
Colóide
Um colóide é uma substância microscopicamente dispersa em toda outra substância. As partículas de fase dispersa têm um diâmetro entre aproximadamente 1 e 1000 nanômetros. Tais partículas são normalmente facilmente visíveis em um microscópio óptico, embora na faixa de tamanho menor, um ultramicroscópio ou um microscópio eletrônico pode ser necessário. As misturas homogéneas com uma fase dispersa nesta faixa de tamanho podem ser chamadas de aerossóis coloidais, emulsões coloidais, espumas coloidais, dispersões coloidais ou hidrossóis. As partículas ou gotículas da fase dispersa são afetadas em grande parte pela química da superfície presente no colóide. Alguns colóides são translúcidos por causa do efeito Tyndall, que é a dispersão da luz por partículas no colóide. Outros colóides podem ser opacos ou têm uma cor ligeira. As suspensões coloidais são objeto de ciência de interface e coloide. Este campo de estudo foi introduzido em 1861 pelo cientista escocês Thomas Graham.
