O QUE SIGNIFICA CONTINUATIVE EM INGLÊS
Aspectos contínuos e progressivos
Os aspectos contínuos e progressivos são aspectos gramaticais que expressam ação incompleta ou estado em andamento em um momento específico: são aspectos não-habituais e imperfeitos. Nas gramáticas de muitas línguas, os dois termos são usados de forma intercambiável. Este é o caso do inglês: uma construção como "Ele está lavando" pode ser descrita como presente contínua ou como presente progressiva. No entanto, existem certas línguas para as quais dois aspectos diferentes são distinguidos. Em chinês, por exemplo, o aspecto progressivo denota uma ação atual, como em "ele está se vestindo", enquanto o aspecto contínuo denota um estado atual, como em "ele está usando roupas finas". Tal como acontece com outras categorias gramaticais, a semântica precisa dos aspectos varia de linguagem para linguagem, e de gramática para gramática. Por exemplo, algumas gramáticas do turco contam a forma -yyor como um tempo presente; alguns como um tempo progressivo; e alguns como um aspecto contínuo e progressivo.
