A denização é um processo obsoleto ou extinto na Inglaterra e na Irlanda e no Reino tardio da Grã-Bretanha, do Reino Unido e do Império Britânico, que remonta ao século 13, pelo qual um estrangeiro, por meio de cartas patentes, tornou-se um denizen, obtendo assim certos direitos, de outra forma, apenas normalmente apreciados pelos assuntos do rei, incluindo o direito de manter a terra. A denúncia caiu em obsolescência com a Lei de Nacionalidade e Estatuto de Estrangeiros de 1914 c. 17, que instituiu certificados de naturalização, em vez de - como foi com o divórcio até o ano de 1858 com a Lei de Causas Matrimoniais de 1857 c. 85 - exigindo a obtenção de um ato privado caro do Parlamento ou possivelmente de uma legislatura colonial. A denúncia ocorreu mediante uma concessão de cartas patentes, um exercício da prerrogativa real. Denizens pagou uma taxa e fez um juramento de lealdade à coroa. Por exemplo, quando o marinheiro venezuelano Gabriel Corbet recebeu cartas de denata em 1431 para servir nos mares para Henry V e Henry VI, ele precisava pagar 40 xelins no hanaper pelo privilégio.
