John Diefenbaker
John George Diefenbaker PC, CH, QC foi o 13º Primeiro-Ministro do Canadá, que atua de 21 de junho de 1957 a 22 de abril de 1963. Ele foi o único líder do partido progressista-conservador entre 1930 e 1979 a liderar o partido para uma vitória eleitoral, fazendo isso três vezes, embora apenas uma vez com a maioria dos assentos na Câmara dos Comuns canadense. Diefenbaker nasceu no sudoeste de Ontário em 1895. Em 1903, sua família migrou para o oeste para a parte dos Territórios do Noroeste, que logo depois se tornaria a província de Saskatchewan. Ele cresceu na província e estava interessado na política desde uma idade jovem. Depois de um breve serviço na Primeira Guerra Mundial, Diefenbaker tornou-se advogado. Ele contestou as eleições nos anos 1920 e 1930 com pouco sucesso até que finalmente foi eleito para a Câmara dos Comuns em 1940. Na Câmara dos Comuns, Diefenbaker foi repetidamente um candidato para a liderança do PC. Ele ganhou a posição desse partido em 1956, em sua terceira tentativa.
