Molecular diffusion

A "difusão molecular", geralmente chamada de difusão, é o movimento térmico de todas as partículas a temperaturas acima do zero absoluto. A taxa deste movimento é função da temperatura, da viscosidade do fluido e do tamanho das partículas. A difusão explica o fluxo líquido de moléculas de uma região de maior concentração para uma menor concentração. Uma vez que as concentrações são iguais, as moléculas continuam a se mover, mas, como não há gradiente de concentração, o processo de difusão molecular cessou e é governado pelo processo de autodifusão, proveniente do movimento aleatório das moléculas. O resultado da difusão é uma mistura gradual do material, de modo que a distribuição das moléculas seja uniforme. Uma vez que as moléculas ainda estão em movimento, mas um equilíbrio foi estabelecido, o resultado final da difusão molecular é chamado de "equilíbrio dinâmico". Em uma fase com temperatura uniforme, ausência de forças líquidas externas que atuam sobre as partículas, o processo de difusão acabará resultando em uma mistura completa. Considere dois sistemas; S1 e S2 à mesma temperatura e capazes de trocar partículas.

"Molecular diffusion", often simply called diffusion, is the thermal motion of all particles at temperatures above absolute zero. The rate of this movement is a function of temperature, viscosity of the fluid and the size of the particles. Diffusion explains the net flux of molecules from a region of higher concentration to one of lower concentration. Once the concentrations are equal the molecules continue to move, but since there is no concentration gradient the process of molecular diffusion has ceased and is instead governed by the process of self-diffusion, originating from the random motion of the molecules. The result of diffusion is a gradual mixing of material such that the distribution of molecules is uniform. Since the molecules are still in motion, but an equilibrium has been established, the end result of molecular diffusion is called a "dynamic equilibrium". In a phase with uniform temperature, absent external net forces acting on the particles, the diffusion process will eventually result in complete mixing. Consider two systems; S1 and S2 at the same temperature and capable of exchanging particles.
