Digitonin é um glicósido obtido da Digital Purpurea; O aglycone é digitogenina, um esteróide espirossiano. Usado como detergente, ele efetivamente solubiliza os lípidos. Como tal, tem várias aplicações relacionadas à membrana em bioquímica, incluindo solubilização de proteínas de membrana, precipitação de colesterol e permeabilização de membranas celulares. Digitonin às vezes é confundido com a droga de digoxina cardíaca, mas não tem efeitos relacionados ao coração.
