Caixa de despachamento
Uma caixa de despacho é uma caixa de madeira usada como um atril a partir da qual parlamentares do Parlamento proferem discursos na câmara parlamentar. O objetivo original da caixa de despacho era que os membros carregassem documentos e outros pertences com eles na câmara. Nos tempos modernos, duas caixas ornamentais de despacho de madeira são encontradas na Câmara dos Deputados australiana e na Câmara dos Comuns britânica, geralmente com uma caixa do lado do governo e outra no lado da oposição da mesa que divide as bancadas opostas. Considerando que os backbenchers em ambos os parlamentos geralmente entregam endereços para a câmara enquanto estão em seu assento, os frontbenchers entregam seus endereços da caixa de despacho do lado. Por esta razão, a expressão "falando da caixa de despacho" é freqüentemente usada para descrever o desempenho de um membro do parlamento ao abordar a câmara. Por tradição, as caixas de despacho modernas contêm frequentemente os textos religiosos usados para jurar novos membros da respectiva câmara.
