O setter inglês é uma raça de cachorro de tamanho médio. Faz parte da família Setter, que inclui setters irlandeses vermelhos, Irish Red e White Setters, e Black-and-tan Gordon Setters. O casaco principalmente branco é de comprimento médio, com longas franjas sedosas na parte de trás das pernas, sob a barriga e na cauda. O casaco apresenta manchas de cor, e as diferentes variedades de cores são referidas como belton. Um cão de arma gentil, mas às vezes forte vontade, malicioso, criado por uma mistura de resistência e atletismo, é usado para caçar o jogo, como codorniz, faisão e galo silvestre. Ao trabalhar, o cão vai caçar metódicamente buscando o cheiro no ar da sua presa. Às vezes, é referido como o Laverack ou Llewellin Setter, pois essas eram variedades famosas da raça durante o período de desenvolvimento principal no século XIX.
